RAINY BAKING DAY

RAINY BAKING DAY

It was raining when I got up this morning. It is unusual for it to rain this time of year. It usually snows instead. But we will take the rain for the fruit trees as a blessing from the Lord.

It was a perfect day for baking.

Dear Hubby's cookie jar was getting empty and it just seemed festive to bake this time of year as well.

I made the Chocolate Chip recipe out of the “Better Homes and Garden New Cookbook”.

I will make me some cookies that I can have. They are a peanut butter cookie with rolled oats in them. I really enjoyed them the first time I made them and not too many calories for a little snack.

The PEANUT BUTTER OATMEAL COOKIES recipe comes from the internet site SparkPeople. It was posted by BUDGETMOM.

I am not a big cookie fan, but these little gems satisfy a sweet tooth craving.

I had some apples that were not going to be too crispy to just eat so decided to make an apple pie.

I used Marlene Knoch's Pie Crust recipe out of her 375 Sensational Splenda Recipes. I used this recipe before and dear Hubby liked it too.
The recipe has corn starch in it which was unusual to me.  I have seen recipes from the 1940's that used a little baking powder.

I doubled the recipe for the top crust. Calorie wise next time I may do a lattice on top, or just make some cute cut outs with a cookie cutter to put on top.

The cookies and the pie turned out really good.  Dear Hubby enjoyed both even if pie is his favorite.

Hope every one had a Merry Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2016

photo moving-clip-art-moving-truck-clip-art-d8133d_zpsgzq0cnhb.jpg Boy has it been a long time.  Life just seemed to get so busy for the last 2 years.
We had moved to California to help my dear Mother-in-law.  She had fallen and needed help.
Unfortunately I ended up with what they call Environmental Asthma.  It was continually getting worse.  My doctor told me to get rid of it I had to move out of California and away from the smog.

So we got Mother-in-law signed up for help at home.  The only problem was that they take so long to get it implemented.  We had set a date that we thought it would be in affect, so told the land lord we would be moving.  As of today they still have not got her daily help.  My dear daughter lives in the area and she is having to do all the things we did for her.  Bless her heart she is doing it even though she has a full time job with the Boys and Girls Club.

That is life as most of us know and waiting is the name of the game.

Anyway we have moved back to AZ and are living in the home my new daughter-in-law had on a mini farm. She now lives in town with my son.

My asthma situation has got much better but they said it can flare up from time to time.  I am just so glad that I can breath without having to use an inhaler 3-4 times a day.

I decorated my home for Christmas and enjoying the season.  Just a little snow once, but they are actually calling for snow on Christmas Day.  I have wanted snow on Christmas for a long time.

Below is some pictures of my decorating.

DIRTY FRIDGE-MOM KNOWS BEST

The top of a fridge can sure get dirty in a kitchen. Along with dust, you get the grease that gets in the air from cooking. I have tried all kinds of things to clean the top with, like scouring powders, etc. I could never seem to get in the groves that are at the top of mine. To make matters worse my fridge is next to my cooking stove. This makes it contain even more grease on top of it. photo dirty frig 1_zpsdd08fhg8.jpg The picture above in the far right hand corner is how dirty it was. I had already been cleaning when I thought everyone should know how easy this was, so did not get the before picture of the whole fridge. photo dirty frig 2_zpsxwlkjmpv.jpg Here is a close up of the dirt, grime, and grease that I had not cleaned yet. photo dirty frig 3_zps5tzgzrkh.jpg Now the Mom knows best part is from my 84 year old mother. My mom for years has swore by JOY dish soap. I like it but could not use it in some of the places I have lived because of the lemon. Unfortunately I have problems with citrus. Recently I had bought some for my dear hubby for cleaning some rocks that he tumbles and so I thought why not try it full strength on this mess. WOW how easy it was.  I did not have to even push hard with the brush, just move it around and it easily loosened it all up. Just take a wet dish towel and wipe the soap and grime off. photo dirty frig 5_zpssg327nqj.jpg Isn't it just beautiful. I could eat off the top of this fridge now. photo IMG_5637_zpszjhfiovn.jpg I even used the joy on the antiques. It removed the grime also, without taking any of the paint off. Just love the shinny chicken and chicks. Also compliments of my mother. She did ceramics and made these for me in 1983. Now the shelf next to the stove will be next. Not dreading cleaning it anymore. FAMILY REFLECTIONS

vintage hanging laundry photo: Laundry CarolWashtub-1-1-1-1.gif

Today is a day of doing my laundry and my Mother'n'Love's. A little over a year ago we came to California to help my husband's mother who is 87 and will be 88 shortly. It seems like our weeks are full now. It was not what we thought we would be doing for retirement, but it was in God's plan.

We are not fond of the area we are in right now.    We were use to fresh air in the high mountains of Arizona.

Unfortunately my doctor says I suffer from environmental asthma here. He even told me that another patient moved to Arizona and no longer has to be on inhalers and meds. Of course we have to rely on the Lord and also suffer some to do His will. So here I stay till He directs us differently

Retirement is not what the media tells everyone. I do remember a pastor saying that there was no retirement in the Bible. Of course people get older and their families honored and helped them out in the Bible. They did not question their duty to them.

Responsibility to parents, children, grand children, and friends is something my husband and I were taught from day one. Myself, I am very glad I was taught this responsibility.

I have adult children that have honored and loved us no matter if they believed or thought the same way as we do. It is very comforting to know you have loved ones that will carry on this honorable responsibility taught in the Bible. Especially since at 65 some day if I live long enough, I could be in the same need of being cared for.

photo Mom and Cat_zpsytcssjib.jpg My mom had a phrase she use to say that has been handed down over the years. WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND. In other words your example to your children in how you live and treat others-will come back to you-GOOD OR BAD.

photo sacramento 4_zpsnogmklvo.jpg Do not misunderstand, we enjoy our lives. I get to do things with my oldest daughter and her family now. Which means enjoying my grand daughter also that I did not see very often. My immediate family lives in the area too. I have my mother 85, my sister, and two brothers who live here. We have got to do things with them also. We have fun with each other, talk to each other, we laugh, etc. We get to hear neat stories from the past that we never had the time to hear before.

photo 008_zps8lshaulh.jpg I get to entertain my hobbies also of sewing, scrap booking, crochet, doing puzzles, Blogging, etc.

It is a joyful life of enjoying the people that God put in our life from day one.  Our parents, grand parents,  aunts and uncles, their friends, then your friends, on and on it goes. This is not to say we all agree with each other, but we do respect, enjoy and care for each other. We try to not let outside influences come in and destroy that either. Which can include any number of things.

scene outside the house photo p1030230-1.jpg We will most likely return home to Arizona some day, but that will be in God's plan and timing for us too. Well I guess today was a day of reflection on living in the circumstances the Lord puts you in.
